Lady Raiders head to Santa Barbara for round robin

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders are traveling to Santa Barbara, Calif., for a four-team round-robin tournament on February 16-17 at Arnhold Tennis Center.
The Lady Raiders (2-3) will begin play against Arizona (6-2) on Friday morning at 11 a.m. CT before moving on to a match against the host team, UC Santa Barbara (2-1), at approximately 3:30 p.m. CT. Tech will then finish off the weekend against conference foe Kansas (1-2) the following day at either 11 a.m. CT or 3:30 p.m. CT.
Texas Tech is coming off a weekend where they split matches between No. 14 Auburn, 4-2, and Jacksonville State, 4-0. Tech was able to capture the doubles point in each match and won all of its singles matches against Jacksonville State in straight sets. The Lady Raiders have won four of five doubles points on the year and have played teams in the top-25 in three of their past five contests.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Arizona Wildcats are fresh off a 4-2 victory against the Maryland Terps. The Wildcats are led in singles by Brandelyn Fulgenzi and Tanvi Narendran who each hold a 5-0 record on courts five and six, respectively. Midori Castillo-Meza holds a 3-0 mark on courts four and six while No. 118 Reece Carter is holding down court one while going 3-2. In doubles, Arizona owns a 12-6 dual record and being strongest on courts two and three with 4-2 and 5-1 marks, respectively. Texas Tech last played Arizona in February last year when they beat the Wildcats, 4-0, to now hold an overall 7-1 record against the Cats.
The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos are coming off their first loss of the year against Oregon, 4-3. Three Gauchos own a perfect singles record with Camille Kiss and Carla Pacot each holding a 3-0 record, while No. 64 Amelia Honer going 2-0 and boasting flawless records on courts one, two and six singles. Their No. 26 doubles pairing of Honer and Kira Reuter are 1-0 on the year. Texas Tech is 2-1 all-time against the Gauchos with their last matchup coming last year that ended in a 4-0 Tech victory.
The Kansas Jayhawks are heading into the weekend after winning their first match of the year against Old Dominion, 4-3. The Jayhawks are led in singles by Kyoka Kubo on court four who holds a 3-0 record, while Maria Titova is 2-0 on court two. On the doubles front, the court two pairing of Kubo and Jocelyn Massey are 3-0 on the year and the pairing on court one of Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse Van Vuuren are 2-1. This will be the 31st matchup between Texas Tech and their Big 12 rival, Kansas, where Tech is 17-13 overall against the Jayhawks. The last meeting in March of 2023 ended up with a Lady Raider victory, 6-1.
