
Lady Raiders collect ranked doubles win in loss to No. 17 OSU

STILLWATER, Okla. – Both Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova earned a ranked victory in doubles, but the No. 33 Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell to the No. 17 Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
The Lady Raiders (10-6, 0-2 Big 12) got out to a 1-0 lead when they took the doubles point from the Cowgirls (11-4, 4-0 Big 12). First, the Oklahoma State pairing of Kristina Novak and Sofia Rojas got the best of Olivia Peet and Cristina Tiglea at court two, 6-1, for the slight advantage.
The Lady Raiders quickly evened things up when No. 77 Komac and Sayfetdniova picked up a ranked win at court one, 6-4, over No. 31 Raquel Gonzalez and Ayumi Miyamoto, making it their second ranked victory as a duo.
It all came down to court three where the Cowgirl tandem of Lucia Peyre and Martina Zerulo led Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Camryn Stepp, 6-5. The Lady Raiders would hold serve to tie it up at 6-6 and force a breaker. Then, Dmitrichenko and Stepp took control as they cruised to a 7-6 (2) tiebreak score to clinch the doubles point.
Oklahoma State answered back by claiming five of six singles matches to win the contest. On court five, Miyamoto was able to beat Komac by a 6-2, 6-1 score, before OSU went ahead 2-1 after Rojas defeated Arina Oreshchenkova with a 6-2, 6-3 win at court six.
The Cowgirls' third point of the match came at court three as Peyre took down Tiglea, 6-0, 6-4. Clinching the match for OSU was No. 109 Wolfberg when she overtook No. 117 Sayfetdinova at court two, 7-5, 6-4. On court one, Peet forced Novak into a third set super tiebreaker, but would fall by a score of 5-7, 7-5, 0-1 (4).
Dmitrichenko collected the only singles win of the afternoon for Texas Tech as she defeated Zerulo at court four in three tough sets. The Lady Raider dropped set one in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5), before coming back and evening the match with a 6-4 second set. In the third-set super tiebreak, Dmitrichenko recorded the victory with a 1-0 (8) score, giving her a team-best nine dual singles wins.
Up next, the Lady Raiders are back at home for a conference match against the Kansas Jayhawks on Friday, March 24 at 5 p.m.
