Tech opens spring season at TCU Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raider women's tennis team heads to Fort Worth, Texas for their first competition of the spring season with the TCU Invitational hosted by the Horned Frogs on January 7 through January 9.
The Red Raiders, who are receiving votes in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) preseason rankings, will send freshmen Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Arina Oreshchenkova, sophomore Avelina Sayfetdinova and junior Camryn Stepp to the tournament to compete against student-athletes from TCU, Tarleton State, SMU and Central Arkansas.
Dmitrichenko is coming off a fall season where she led the Red Raiders with seven singles victories, while also adding six doubles wins. Oreshchenkova will join Dmitrichenko as the other freshman making the trip to Fort Worth and is set to make her debut in the Scarlet and Black at the tournament.
Starting the fall season ranked at No. 67 by the ITA, Sayfetdinova went 6-3 in doubles and added three more singles wins to her fall resume. Those singles wins included a victory over No. 59-ranked Marlee Zein of Texas at the Baylor Invitational and No. 63 Page Freeman of Notre Dame at the ITA All-American Championships. She also won the doubles title at the Baylor Invite after posting a perfect 5-0 record there.
Stepp collected 10 total wins in the fall season (five singles and five doubles). She ended the fall by winning her singles flight at the Big 12 Invitational after going 3-1 in the tournament. She secured the title with wins over Kylin Sadler (Kansas), Amber Hochstatter (Oklahoma State) and Vanesa Suarez (Kansas State).
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT/SCHEDULE
The TCU Invitational will take place outdoors, weather permitting, and will be moved indoors in case of inclement weather. Live stats and live video will not be available for the tournament. Follow @TexasTechWTEN on Twitter for updates and scores of the matches.
