LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis squad had two student-athletes named to the All-Big 12 team released today by the Big 12 Conference.
Senior Samantha van der Drift earned her second career singles selection to the All-Big 12 team. She compiled a 21-16 record and was the team leader in victories. Van der Drift also became Tech's all-time winningest singles player in school history with 78 career victories.
Van der Drift paired with sophomore Kelsy Garland were named All-Big 12 doubles. The No. 1 duo was ranked in the top 75 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association all-season long. The partners racked up a 20-10 record and were 15-8 in dual match play.
"I think it was a well-deserving award and seeing Sam (van der Drift) getting the awards as a senior and the all-time winningest player in Tech history is great," head coach Todd Petty exclaimed. "I thought Kelsy (Garland) and Sam were one of the top doubles team in the nation and helped win a lot of matches this season."
