
James Pitches Nebraska Past Tech Softball

LUBBOCK, Texas - Nebraska pitcher Peaches James threw a complete game one-hitter en route to winning her 27th game of the season as Nebraska defeated Texas Tech softball 6-1 at Rocky Johnson Field on Saturday night.
The team's traded runs in the first inning, with Nebraska scoring on a two-out RBI single and the Lady Raiders (19-33; 1-14 Big 12) striking back in the bottom half of the inning, when Elyssa Sigala slammed her 11th home run of the season to right field to send the game to the second innings knotted at 1-1.
Although the team got off the a hot start, the home run by Sigala would be the only hit allowed by Nebraska in the game.
The Cornhuskers (33-12; 11-0 Big 12) got to Tech starter Erin Crawford in the third inning. Nebraska strung together four consecutive hits to push across two runs to take a 3-1 lead. Crawford (9-12) finished the innings but in the fourth was replaced by Julie Hauck, who came in to get the final out of the inning with a runner on second base.
Nebraska plated an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead. With runners on first and third, both runners attempted to advance, an out was recorded when the runner attempting to take second was caught in a run down; however, the lead runner did come in to score Nebraska's fourth run of the game.
An RBI single Jocelyn Evans drove in James, who led the inning off with a double to left center, to give Nebraska a 5-1 lead. James limited the Lady Raider offenses to only one hit in her 26th complete game of the season.
Nebraska center fielder Nicole Trimboli hit her sixth home run of the season in the sixth inning for the final run for the Cornhuskers.
Lady Raider Softball will return to action tomorrow morning when they take on the Huskers in the series finale at 11 a.m. at Rocky Johnson Field.
