SENIOR SEASON (2019-20)
Holyfield finished his graduate transfer season averaging 8.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and a team-leading 1.6 blocks per game… He started 30 of 31 games played during the season and finished fifth in the Big 12 with 50 total blocks on the season… Holyfield scored a season-high 21 points in two games coming in non-conference play against Houston Baptist and then again in Big 12 action against Oklahoma… In the 21-point performance against the Sooners he was 8-for-12 from the field and also had six rebounds and four blocked shots… Holyfield scored in double figures in 12 games, had 17 game with five or more rebounds and had three or more blocks in nine games… He had a season-high five blocked shots in a win at Texas and also had four blocks in games against West Virginia, Kansas and Iowa State… Holyfield started his Texas Tech career by going for 15 points in the opener against Eastern Illinois and then went off for 20 points in the win over Bethune-Cookman where he also had six rebounds before going 9-for-10 from the field for his 21 points against HBU… He finished the season leading Texas Tech by shooting 53.6 percent from the field including hitting 15 3-pointers… Holyfield, who led the team in scoring in seven games, was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Nov. 11 after his performance against HBU... He finished his collegiate career with 1,357 points, 736 rebounds and 183 blocked shots.
PRIOR TO TEXAS TECH: Holyfield transfers to Tech as a graduate student after playing three seasons at Stephen F. Austin and redshirting the 2018-19 season due to injury… He comes to Lubbock as a veteran presence having already produced 1,081 points, 595 rebounds and 134 blocked shots in his collegiate career... An Albuquerque, New Mexico native, Holyfield was a two-time All-Southland Conference selection after earning third-team honors as a junior and second-team distinction following his sophomore season… As junior, Holyfield helped lead the Lumberjacks to the NCAA Tournament where they met up with the Red Raiders in Dallas... He would score 10 points and added four record in the game where Tech earned a 70-60 win on its way to the program’s first NCAA Elite Eight appearance... During his final season in Nacogdoches, Holyfield averaged 12.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots... He was named the Southland Conference Tournament MVP and to the conference’s all-defensive team as a junior... An experienced player, Holyfield started all of SFA’s 34 games during his freshman season where he averaged 7.5 points and 4.2 rebounds before leading the team in scoring and rebounding as a sophomore with 11.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game... He had seven double-doubles during his sophomore season, including going off for 21 points and 16 rebounds in a game against Northwestern State… Before SFA, he played for Elev8 Sports Institute in Florida where he averaged 17 points and seven rebounds during his senior season…
PERSONAL: Son of David and Jemima. Has eight siblings, Kim, David, Sam, Jenny, Mike, Daniel, Alexis and Chioma. Chose Texas Tech over Kansas, Oregon, Oklahoma State, West Virginia and Baylor among others after transferring from SFA… Signed with Texas Tech as a graduate transfer on May 11, 2019.
