Seven Red Raiders headed to Tulsa, Okla.
LUBBOCK — Texas Tech men's tennis continues its fall campaign this weekend as it travels to Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the ITA All-American Championships.
Niksa Arsic, Ludovico Vaccari, Max Pade, Imran Daniel Hazli, Felipe Pagnacco, Thiago Guglieri and Miguel Angel Machado will begin play Saturday, Sept. 19, in the pre-qualifying singles draw. In doubles action, the pairings of Arsic and Guglieri, along with Vaccari and Daniel Hazli, will also open competition in the pre-qualifying rounds.
Arsic and Guglieri enter the weekend following an impressive start to the fall season. The duo captured the doubles championship at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational after earning two ranked victories. Across three matches, the pair posted a 24-13 games record, highlighted by an upset of No. 40 Texas A&M's Lathan Skrobarcek and Ilia Snitari, 8-7 (7-4), in the championship match.
Arsic also found success in singles play at the invitational, advancing to the quarterfinals. Freshman Max Pade impressed in his collegiate debut as well in Midland, rebounding from an opening-round loss to finish 3-1 in the back draw.
Meanwhile, the other Texas Tech doubles team competing in Tulsa this weekend enjoyed a strong showing at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. Vaccari and Daniel Hazli advanced to the doubles final and secured a ranked victory over No. 59 Notre Dame's Peter Nad and Luis Llorens Saracho. The Red Raider duo broke serve in consecutive service games to take control early and earn a 6-4 victory before ultimately finishing as tournament runners-up.
In singles action at Milwaukee, newcomer Miguel Angel Machado advanced to the quarterfinals. Machado opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Clayton Anderson in the Round of 32 before facing Nad in the Round of 16, where he bounced back to a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Play begins Saturday at 9 a.m. Players who advance through Saturday's matches will move on to Sunday's pre-qualifying rounds, featuring a field of 80 singles competitors and 16 doubles teams, with spots in Monday's main qualifying draws of the ITA All-American Championships on the line.
