Red Raiders Post Strong Results in Fall Season Opener

Niksa Arsic and Thiago Guglieri claim doubles title at Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational
MIDLAND, Texas — The Texas Tech men's tennis team opened its fall season this weekend, splitting competition between the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational and the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
The Red Raiders combined for 17 singles victories, three wins over ranked ITA doubles opponents, two quarterfinal singles appearances and one doubles title across the two tournaments.
Niksa Arsic and Thiago Guglieri highlighted the weekend in Midland, capturing the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational doubles title.
The No. 86-ranked duo opened the tournament with a swift 8-0 victory over Princeton's Milan Markovits and Aleksandar Mitric before upsetting Arkansas' No. 80-ranked tandem of Brendan Boland and Connor Smillie, 8-6.
Arsic and Guglieri continued their run in the championship match, once again upsetting a highly -ranked duo, No. 40 Texas A&M's Lathan Skrobarcek and Ilia Snitari to claim the tournament title.
Arsic, Guglieri and Felipe Pagnacco each earned opening-round singles victories on Friday in Midland. Arsic advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Texas A&M's Lathan Skrobarcek in a three-set battle, 7(10)-6(8), 3-6, 10-8, before his run came to an end in the quarterfinals against TCU's Albert Pedrico, who entered the tournament ranked No. 93 in the ITA preseason singles rankings.
Freshman Max Pade also made his collegiate debut in Midland. After falling to Oklahoma State's Ian Bracks in the Round of 32, Pade went 3-0 in the back draw to close out his first collegiate tournament.

The Red Raiders also found success at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, highlighted by a runner-up finish from Ludovico Vaccari and Imran Daniel Abdul Hazli in doubles.
Vaccari and Abdul Hazli opened doubles play with a 6-3 victory over Navy's Charlie Spencer and George Cutone before defeating Omaha's Maddox Lundell and Christian Trevey to advance to the semifinals.
The unranked duo then faced Notre Dame's Peter Nad and Luis Llorens Saracho, the No. 59-ranked doubles team in the ITA preseason rankings. Vaccari and Abdul Hazli jumped out to an early advantage, breaking the Notre Dame pair on consecutive service games en route to a 6-4 victory.
The run ultimately came to an end in the championship match, as Ole Miss' Igor Kudriashov and Kai Milburn, ranked No. 58 in the ITA preseason doubles rankings, defeated the Red Raiders to claim the tournament title.
In singles action, newcomer Miguel Angel Machado advanced to the quarterfinals. Angel Machado opened with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Clayton Anderson in the Round of 32 before facing Nad in the Round of 16.
After dropping the opening set, 6-3, Machado responded with a dominant performance, winning the next two sets, 6-1, 6-0, to advance to the quarterfinals.
