Texas Tech kicks off the season with competition in Milwaukee and Midland

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Texas Tech men's tennis team opens its fall season this weekend, splitting competition between the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational and the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.

Both tournaments begin Friday, Sept. 11, and conclude Sunday, Sept. 13.

Returning Red Raiders Ludovico Vaccari and Thomas Van Den Dooren will be joined by newcomers Imran Daniel Hazli and Miguel Machado as they travel to Wisconsin to compete in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic at Western Racquet Club in Glendale.

Vaccari enters the fall after an impressive summer campaign that saw him advance to the quarterfinals of both the M25 Roda de Barà Singles Tournament and the M15 Monastir Singles Tournament. Hazli also brings momentum into his first season as a Red Raider after posting a 10-7 record during his sophomore campaign at San Diego State. Primarily competing on the Aztecs' top courts, Hazli closed the season on a strong note with four consecutive victories and will look to carry that success into his Tech debut.

Meanwhile, back in the Lone Star State, the remaining five members of the squad, Niksa Arsic, Thiago Guglieri, Max Pade, Felipe Pagnacco and Joseph Patton, will open their fall seasons at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational. The Red Raiders return to the event for the second consecutive year.

Arsic and Guglieri have already garnered attention entering the fall, checking in at No. 86 in the ITA preseason doubles rankings after compiling a 20-11 overall record last season. The duo primarily occupied the top doubles court for Texas Tech, posting an 11-7 record that included three victories over nationally ranked opponents.

Pade, the lone freshman on this year's roster, arrives in Lubbock with an impressive international résumé. A native of Germany, Pade reached as high as No. 8 in the country's U18 rankings while also climbing to No. 66 in the German men's rankings. He will look to gain valuable collegiate experience this fall after a strong summer that included a finals appearance at the M15 Litija Doubles Tournament.

Among the ranked opponents on the schedule this weekend, Pagnacco will face Texas A&M's Amirkhamza Nasridinov, the No. 15 singles player in the ITA preseason poll, while Patton is set to take on Oklahoma's Ashai Harazaki, who enters the fall ranked No. 121 nationally.
