The four-day competition features alternate days for each gender as the men compete on Wednesday and Friday, while the women go on Thursday and Saturday. A majority of the running events feature a first round followed by a quarterfinals on the second day for each gender. Athletes who make the cut to the quarterfinals day, will need to finish in the top-12 to secure their spot in the 2026 Outdoor Championship meet in Eugene, Ore., (June 10-13). Meanwhile, in the throwing/field events, athletes are only allowed three attempts to secure a top-12 spot. In distance races like the 3k steeplechase, 5k and 10k, athletes will only run them once this week with the top-12 moving on to Eugene.
What to Know
When it comes to the national team rankings set by the USTFCCCA, the men's team stayed at No. 5 this week, while the women's team moved up two spots to No. 6. Tech is the only Big 12 team to have both programs inside the top-10.
Temitope Adeshina will look to keep her undefeated streak alive this week as she vies for her third-straight appearance at the NCAA outdoor meet. She's cleared an outdoor SB of 1.95m (6-4 ¾). Sam Hurley is entered in both the pole vault and high jump this week as he tries to punch his ticket since 2023 where he participated in the high jump. Hurley, who has been pole vaulting all season, including indoors, high jumped at the Big 12 meet a few weeks ago clearing 2.20m (7-2 1/5) – an outdoor PB.
Jonathan Seremes holds the nation's top triple jump mark at 17.09m (56-1). The France native is the back-to-back winner nationally indoors but has never competed at the final meet outdoors. Titus Kimaru leads the west region in the 3k steeplechase with a time of 8:18.26 which is No. 3 nationally. The Kenyan reached the NCAA outdoor meet a season ago but did not get out of the semifinal round.
Zaid Latif is one of 11 athletes in the country to leap over eight meters in the long jump as he holds a PB mark of 8.03m (26-4 ¼). Tonie-Ann Forbes is the top-seeded 100m hurdler in the west with a time of 12.75 (2.6). Vanessa Balde and Lovina Ewusi rank seventh and 11th in the country when it comes to the 400m hurdles. Balde holds a time of 55.36 as Ewusi boast a time of 55.75.
