Red Raiders conclude day one of Big 12 Championships

The Red Raiders scored in both the men’s and women’s javelin throw
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Texas Tech track and field team wrapped up day one of the 2026 Big 12 Outdoor Championships at Roy P. Drachman Stadium. Three of 21 events were scored on the first day of the championships.

Freshman Isaac Woodward delivered the first points of the meet for the Red Raiders as he threw the javelin 65.21m (213-11), taking sixth overall. Leah Howard represented the women finishing fifth, throwing 47.99m (157-5).
Half of Tech's 200m sprinters booked a final spot for Saturday, led by Kimarlie Stewart who clocked in a PB time of 20.41 (1.7w), winning his heat. Shaemar Uter also dropped a PB with a time of 20.43 (1.8w) as Johnathan Crawford claimed the final qualifying time at 20.50 (2.6w) in ninth.
Sean Dixon in the 400m hurdles placed second in his heat, garnering the auto-qualifier with a time of 50.93 (seventh overall). On the women's side, Lovina Ewusi and Vanessa Balde each won their heat. Ewusi went 56.66, while Balde crossed the line at 56.82 – Their times go down as No. 3 and No. 4 in Tech history.
Victor Kipkoech capped off day one for Tech in the 10k placing fourth with a time of 29:35.76 – he was ranked 16th in the Big 12 coming into tonight.
