Lady Raiders earn a top-20 win over No. 20 TCU

LUBBOCK, Texas – Freshman Ella Brownback provided the heroics in singles as the No. 33 Texas Tech Lady Raiders earned their first top-20 win of the season over the No. 20-ranked TCU Horned Frogs, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Center.
The Lady Raiders (15-9, 6-6 Big 12) claimed an early and much-needed doubles point over TCU (16-4, 9-3 Big 12) to start the match up 1-0. The No. 77 duo of Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy took down Victoria Gomez O'Hayon and Yu-Chin Tsai on court one in a near-perfect set, 6-1. With this win, Dmitrichenko broke the program record for dual doubles wins at court one with 21 wins this season, beating out double's partners Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova who set the record in 2024.
Following the win on court one, Ella Brownback and Andreea Lila came back from being down 1-3 to clinch the doubles point over Cayetana Gay and Tomi Main, 6-4, on court three. Play on court two was left unfinished with Elena Daskalova and Mariaa Hlahola up 6-5 over the Horned Frogs pairing of Raquel Cabellero Chica and Jennifer Jackson.
Dmitrichenko opened up singles play with dominant sets over Ramos Sierra on court two, 6-3, 6-0, to put Tech up 2-0. The Horned Frogs fought back after No. 83 Chica took down Murphy in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, on court one and Jackson defeated Polina Sleptsova, 6-2, 6-3, on court four to tie the overall score to 2-2.
TCU took the lead at 3-2 when Gay defeated Havana Kadi in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. On court three, Daskalova tied up the match at 3-all after beating O'Hayon. Daskalova served to make it 3-2 in the third set, and then won the next three games to secure her match, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. Securing the top-20 win for the Lady Raiders was Brownback on court six, who fought back being down 2-4 in the third set to claim the match over Main, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.
Up next, the Lady Raiders host the No. 34 Baylor Bears on Saturday at 12Â p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center.
