Tech wins final regular-season match over Baylor

LUBBOCK, Texas – Both Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy recorded ranked singles wins as the No. 33 Texas Tech Lady Raiders routed the No. 34 Baylor Bears, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Center. Â
Texas Tech (16-9, 7-6 Big 12) won the doubles point in dominant fashion over Baylor (13-8, 8-5 Big 12) to begin the contest with the 1-0 advantage. At court one, No. 77 Dmitrichenko and Murphy put up a bagel, 6-0 against Gabrielle Villegas and Zuzanna Kubacha for the first win of the day. Then, Elena Daskalova and Mariia Hlahola clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory over Alian Zack and Na Dong at court two.
In singles, Daskalova continued to dominate as she only dropped one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 win at court three over Kennedy Gibbs to make it 2-0. Baylor cut into the lead after Zack defeated Andreea Lila at court four, 6-2, 6-4.
But, Tech earned another singles win, this time when Murphy overtook No. 61-ranked Dong at the top court by a 6-1, 6-4 score to make it 3-1 in the match. It was also Murphy's team-leading sixth ranked singles win of the season. Clinching the match was Dmitrichenko at court two over No. 114 Kubacha, as she picked up her second ranked singles win this year with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 victory.
When the match was won, Brownback forced a third set over Luna Ivkovic at court six, 2-6, 6-4, 1-1, before it went unfinished. Havana Kadi was also in a third set with Mu-Jie Tzeng at court five, 4-6, 6-1, 2-3, when it was abandoned.Â
Up next, the Lady Raiders head to Orlando, Fla., for the Big 12 Tournament beginning on Wednesday, April 15.
