MATCHUP: Texas Tech (13-6) at Dallas Baptist (11-9)
DATE: Tuesday, Mar. 17, 2026
TIME: 6:35 p.m.
LOCATION: Dallas, Texas (Horner Ballpark)
HEADLINES IN 1-2-3:
* After a 15-game homestand where the Red Raiders went 12-3 with series wins over UAlbany, CSU Bakersfield, Penn State and Kansas, the Red Raiders hit the road Tuesday for the start of a six-of-seven road stretch. The lone home match for the Red Raiders will be next Tuesday's home game against UNM. The Red Raiders will head to Arizona and Fort Worth for weekend sets at UofA and TCU.
* Despite Sunday's run-rule setback to Kansas, the Red Raiders did enjoy their 15-game nearly 30-day stint at home (Tech's last and only true road contest came back on Feb. 17 at UTRGV), as the Red Raiders hit .400 as a team, went 12-3 and outscored opponents 184-99. In total, all 10 Red Raiders with at least 30 at-bats hit over .350 and four Red Raiders hit over .410 led by Caden Ferraro's .488 average. Ferraro, freshman Jesse Rusinek, freshman Linkin Garcia and junior Logan Hughes were the four Red Raiders to hit above .400 on the longest homestand since 2011. The Red Raiders played an 18-game homestand that year going 12-6. Tech's 80 percent win percentage on the homestand was the best since 2021 (11-1; 91.6%).
* Through the season's first 19 games, the Red Raiders have boasted one of the nations deepest and most productive lineup, as Preseason All-Big 12 selection and Second Team All-Big 12 selection Robin Villeneuve has hit a team-best eight long balls out of the nine hole. Entering the midweek with DBU, the Red Raiders rank inside the top-5 in five different categories including first in doubles per game (3.11), second in batting average (.371) and scoring (11.4) as well as third in slugging (.621) and third in on-base (.478).
MIDWEEK NOTES:
RUN-RULES HAVE BECOME NORMAL:
• Playing with a run-rule (10-after-7) for the first time this season, the Red Raiders have taken full advantage of the run rule, as five of the last seven games and back-to-back games have ended in run-rule fashion. The Red Raiders have been run-ruled just once this season, against Vanderbilt in Arlington (13-3, 8 inn.). Since the loss to the Commodores, the Red Raiders have run-ruled six times, bringing the Red Raiders run-rule record to 6-1. New in 2026 will be the Big 12 adopting the run-rule for all 30 Big 12 Conference matchups. The Red Raider run-rule run began in the Saturday front-end of the doubleheader against UAlbany with a 15-1 win. The streak continued with a Sunday sweep-clinching 10-0, eight inning run-rule win against the Great Danes. The Red Raiders won the first two matchups against CSU Bakersfield in run-rule fashion, 17-4 and 14-3 before winning the final two games of the Penn State series by 21-6 and 14-4 run-rule wins. The Red Raiders saw a six-game run-rule winning-streak snapped on Sunday in the 18-7 loss at Kansas.
HOME COOKIN': Â
• Despite Sunday's run-rule setback to Kansas, the Red Raiders did enjoy their 15-game nearly 30-day stint at home (Tech's last and only true road contest came back on Feb. The Red Raiders played an 18-game homestand that year going 12-6. Tech's 80 percent win percentage on the homestand was the best since 2021 (11-1; 91.6%) The Red Raiders 15-game homestand was the longest by games since 2011 when the Red Raiders played an 18-game homestand. Tech went 12-6 on that homestand in 2011. Tech hit 86 extra-base hits in the 15 games they played on the homestand, including 28 total home runs.
PROGRAM RECORD FALLS AS TECH SHOOTS UP THE NATIONS LEADERBOARDS:
• The Red Raiders led by the blistering weekend against Penn State where they outscored the Big 10 foe by a 50-17 margin, are hitting .379 as a team. In total, 10 different Red Raiders are hitting over .360 this season led by Ferraro's impressive .429 mark. As a team, the Red Raiders are first in the country in total doubles (59) and doubles-per-game (3.11). Tech is second in batting average (.371), second in scoring (11.4), third in on-base percentage (.478) and third in slugging percentage (.621). The Red Raiders have scored the fourth-most runs in the country this season (211), trailing just Georgia Tech (254, 20 games), Wichita State (228, 21) and Georgia (221, 21 games). The Red Raiders have scored at least seven runs in 16-straight games and had scored eight or more runs in 15-straight games ( a program-record).
DBU BACK ON THE SCHEDULE:
• For the first time since 2022, Texas Tech and DBU will meet in the midweek this season, starting with Tuesday's midweek contest in Dallas. The Red Raiders last played at DBU during the 2022 season when they swept a home-and-home series from the Patriots. DBU will return the game on May 5 in Lubbock. The Red Raiders are 20-11 all-time against DBU and have won six of the nine contests at DBU. Tech and DBU have met just four times (2022 and 2018) in the regular season since 2015. Tech has won four-straight overall against DBU dating back to a 2018 regular season loss in Lubbock.
HITTING THE ROAD:
• After playing 15-straight at home, the Red Raiders play seven of the next eight games away from home beginning with Tuesday's midweek at DBU. In total, the seven of eight-road swing for Tech will feature a four-game road trip this week, as the Red Raiders will head to Tucson this weekend for a three-game clash with Arizona in Tucson. Following the lone home game of the stretch (Tuesday) against New Mexico, the Red Raiders will return for the DFW for the third time in the early season against TCU (Mar. 27-29) in Fort Worth. The Red Raiders have played just one true road game at UTRGV (Feb. 17) and four games away from home (Shriners Children's Classic, Feb. 13-15 and UTRGV; Feb. 17). Ironically, the Red Raiders are staying Monday night at the same hotel they stayed at for opening weekend at Globe Life Field.
MOST THE MOST OF HIS FIRST CHANCE:
• After catcher Matt Quintanar started four straight games, and six of seven, fellow JUCO transfer AJ Goytia earned his first career start behind the dish on Wednesday night against No. 24 UTSA. In his first chance to get extended ABs (Goytia had just two at-bats (2B, BB) prior to starting the series finale against the Roadrunners. On Wednesday night, Goytia went 1-for-2 with two walks drawn. The one hit for Goytia was a big one, a sixth inning two-run home run off the video board in right-center field. The blast was Goytia's first career D1 Home Run (he hit seven in JUCO) and was the first home run hit by a Texas Tech Catcher whilst starting at catcher in 33 games. The last Red Raider home run by their catcher came last April 19 when Davis Rivers homered twice in the Red Raiders 12-8 win at Arizona State.
UP NEXT:
The Red Raiders continue the road trip this weekend with a three-game series at Arizona in Tucson. First pitch Friday night is set for 8 p.m. (CT)/6 p.m. (PT).
