No. 23 Tech opens Big 12 play on the road

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 23 Texas Tech Lady Raiders begin Big 12 play this week with a match at Kansas on Friday at 4 p.m. and a match at Iowa State on Sunday at 12 p.m. Texas Tech leads the all-time series with Kansas, 21-13, winning the last five matches dating back to 2023. Tech holds a 31-3 all-time record over the Cyclones and is currently on a two-match win streak over Iowa State.
The Lady Raiders (9-3) are coming off a 2-1 week, getting wins over No. 60 Grand Canyon (4-0) and No. 37 Iowa (4-2). These wins pushed the Lady Raiders from 32nd in the nation to top-25. Texas Tech is led in dual singles wins by Hailey Murphy with seven wins, five of those coming at court one. Mariia Hlahola is just behind with six dual wins.
On the dual doubles side, the No. 75-ranked duo of Yekterina Dmitrichenko and Murphy lead the team with nine wins, all coming at court one. The tandem of Ella Brownback and Polina Sleptsova are second on the team with a 4-0 dual win record, all coming at court three.
Scouting the Opponents
The Kansas Jayhawks are 4-5 on the season and have key wins over Creighton, Nebraska and No. 53 Minnesota. Their most recent losses came against Old Dominion and Arkansas. The Jayhawks are led in dual singles by No. 36-ranked Kyoka Subo with five wins, all coming at the top of the lineup. There are also three players with four dual wins apiece in Heike Janse Van Vuuren, Meg McCarty and Yerke Arystanbekova. In dual doubles, the duo of No. 72 Kubo and Van Vuuren lead the team with a perfect 4-0 record at court one.
The Iowa State Cyclones are 2-4 overall with wins over St. Thomas and UNLV. Their losses came to Iowa, Illinois, Wichita State and Minnesota. The Cyclones are led in dual singles wins by both No. 64 Maria De La Paz Alberto and Alicia Dale with three each. In dual doubles, there are two pairs with a team-leading two victories.
