RED RAIDERS SEEKING HOME WIN STREAK RECORD ON SATURDAY
- The Red Raiders matched the school record this past Saturday for the longest home winning streak with their win over No. 22 Arizona, earning their 13th consecutive home win. The streak ties the mark set during the World War II era, spanning the 1939-42 seasons.
- Texas Tech, which boasts the nation's third-longest active home winning streak, is an impressive 27-5 at home under Joey McGuire, including a 17-4 mark against Big 12 opponents.
- Texas Tech seeks to establish a new record of 14 with a win this Saturday against the Mountaineers.
THIS WEEK IN THE POLLS
- Texas Tech remained at No. 13 in the Associated Press poll Sunday despite the Red Raiders' second top-25 victory of the season Saturday in a 34-26 win over then-No. 22 Arizona. The win did move the Red Raiders up one spot to No. 13 in the U.S. LBM coaches poll.
- This is the 27th-consecutive week the Red Raiders have appeared in the Associated Press poll, the longest run in program history. The Red Raiders previously appeared in the Associated Press poll over 20-straight weeks during the course of the 2004-06 seasons. Texas Tech rose to as high as No. 10 during that stretch.
WELCOME TO JOEY-VEMBER...
- Texas Tech heads into the month of November deep in the Big 12 title race after a 7-1 start. The good news for the Red Raiders is that Texas Tech has been the Big 12's winningest program in the month of November under Joey McGuire. The Red Raiders are a combined 13-3 in November games under McGuire, which is the best in the Big 12, with Arizona in second with a 12-5 record (.706) during that span.ย
- Joey McGuire's 13-3 record during the month of November is the highest winning percentage for a Texas Tech head coach in regular-season games in November or December through his first four seasons. McGuire is also tied with DeWitt Weaver (13-4-1) for the most November wins through the first four seasons in program history.ย
- The Red Raiders were a perfect 4-0 during the final month a year ago, which marked the first undefeated November since 1993 when Texas Tech closed out a five-game winning streak to end the regular season with victories over TCU, SMU and Houston. Texas Tech enters this weekend having won six-consecutive games in November dating back to wins over Oklahoma State and West Virginia in 2024.ย
RUNNING GAME COULD BE KEY THIS WEEKEND
- All eyes will be on the running game for both teams this weekend as West Virginia enters averaging 261.6 rushing yards per game and will face a Texas Tech defense that is giving up only 94.9 yards of its own. The Red Raiders surrendered only 12 rushing yards to Arizona, marking their fewest to a Big 12 opponent since facing Kansas in 1997. Texas Tech will look to repeat its own rushing performance, meanwhile, as the Red Raiders compiled a season-high 328 yards behind two 100-yard rushers in J'Koby Williams and Thomas Castellanos.ย

INSIDE THE WEST VIRGINIA SERIESย
- Texas Tech and West Virginia will meet for the 16th time in history and the 15th time as Big 12 members in a back-and-forth series that the Red Raiders now lead 8-7 overall. The Red Raiders have won eight of 14 games since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12 Conference prior to the 2012 season, including six of the past seven meetings after a 49-0 rout a year ago in Morgantown.ย
- Texas Tech's lone setback in its last seven games versus West Virginia came in its 2023 visit to Morgantown. The Mountaineers frustrated Texas Tech's offense that afternoon on the way to a 20-13 victory. It is the lone loss against West Virginia under Joey McGuire, who is 3-1 versus the Mountaineers during his tenure.ย
- The two schools have closed the regular season against each other in each of the past two seasons as the Red Raiders delivered a 52-15 rout at home in 2024 before a 49-0 shutout victory a year ago in Morgantown. Prior to those two wins, the series had traditionally featured several close games with seven of the first 12 meetings as Big 12 members being decided by one possession. The Red Raiders are 3-4 in one-possession games all-time against the Mountaineers.ย
- The only other meeting between the two schools outside the Big 12 era came in the 1938 Sun Bowl where West Virginia edged the Red Raiders, 7-6, in front of 12,000 fans in El Paso. It was the first of now 42 bowl appearances for the Red Raiders, who rank among the top 25 teams all-time in postseason trips.
- The 2027 season will snap a streak of 14-consecutive seasons the two schools have faced each other since becoming Big 12 members. The Mountaineers will not be on Texas Tech's 2027 slate, which is the final season in the Big 12 Conference's four-year scheduling matrix.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE LAST MATCHUPย IN 2025
