Volleyball weloomes the Knights before heading to Kansas State
LUBBOCK, Texas โ Texas Tech (8-11, 0-7) will host UCF (10-8, 2-6) on Friday night at 6 p.m. in United Supermarkets Arena before going back on the road to face Kansas State (9-6, 1-6) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Manhattan.
The Knights are coming off a strong weekend. After entering last weekend winless in the Big 12, UCF was able to grab two wins against Houston and West Virginia to move themselves from the bottom of the standings. Tech is 3-2 all-time against the Knights and have won its last two matchups against them.
The Wildcats, after going 8-0 in non-conference play, have dropped six of their last seven matches. Kansas State, historically, is good against the Red Raiders, boasting a 47-15 record against them all time.
Quick Hits:
Emily Contreras and Katelyn Cochran rank top 10 in the Big 12 for digs per set (3.53) and assists per set (8.97), respectively. The two four-year seniors have been leaders on this team and will look to continue their strong play as Tech looks to break out of the losing streak.
Texas Tech's Sara Bowcutt and Elia Dinsmore have already shown flashes of brilliance in their short careers. The freshmen duo rankings first and third on the team in points, respectively. They both recorded their first career double-double against St. Thomas in the second match of the season and Bowcutt became the first Red Raider this season to record 20 kills in a match when she did so in Tech's win over St. Mary's (9/3) and recorded two more in wins over UTRGV (9/10) and Prairie View A&M (9/10).
Sophomores Kenna McKenzie and Shelby Ignash are taking the step forward that everyone hoped they would after finishing their freshmen campaigns so strongly last year. Ignash recorded a career-high eight blocks against St. Mary's and then tied her career-high for kills in back-to-back matches with nine against Sacramento State (9/4) and Nevada (9/5).
