Four Lady Raiders reach double figures to fuel dominant exhibition victory

By: Aiden Kocol

LUBBOCK — Lone returner Jalynn Bristow led the way for the Lady Raiders on Sunday, pouring in a team-high 26 points to power Texas Tech to an 81-40 exhibition victory over Angelo State inside the United Supermarkets Arena.

Bristow finished just one rebound shy of a double-double, leading the Lady Raiders with nine boards in Tech's first home performance of the season. She was joined in double figures by Stephanie Okechukwu (18), Martina Anyango (14) and Ambrosia "Bro Bro" Cole (12), as four Lady Raiders reached double figures.

Cole also orchestrated the Lady Raiders' offense, dishing out a team-high six assists, while Tahys Da Silva added four assists of her own. Anyango, who recently joined the program, made an immediate impact in her Lady Raider debut, recording 14 points and six rebounds while going a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.

As a team, Texas Tech dominated the glass, outrebounding the Rambelles 44-24, while capitalizing on Angelo State's miscues to score 34 points off 26 turnovers.

The Lady Raiders established control early, closing the first quarter with a double-digit advantage and never looking back. Tech shot an efficient 57.9% from the field in the opening period to set the tone before closing the first half on a 14-2 run. The Lady Raiders forced five turnovers in just over three minutes to fuel the surge, carrying a commanding 49-24 lead into the break.

Tech continued to extend its advantage in the second half. A fast-break layup from Okechukwu at the seven-minute mark of the third quarter pushed the Lady Raiders' lead to 30, 56-26, as the home team continued to pull away. The advantage grew to as many as 40 points, 70-30, following a pair of free throws from Bristow with just over eight minutes remaining.

Natalia Jordan capped the dominant performance with a late three-pointer, putting the finishing touches on an 81-40 exhibition victory for the Lady Raiders.

The Lady Raiders officially open the season on Nov. 5 against Charlotte, as they look to build on one of the most successful seasons in recent program history after finishing fourth in the Big 12 a year ago. Picked 13th in the preseason poll, Texas Tech posted a 26-8 overall record and a 12-6 mark in Conference play, earning its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013.
