The Red Raiders open the season in Las Cruces, NM
LUBBOCK, Texas – The 2025 Texas Tech cross country season officially gets underway Saturday morning in Las Cruces, N.M., as the Tech men and women compete in the Lori Fitzgerald Memorial Open at the NMSU Golf Course.
The women's 5k will is slated for an 8:30 a.m. start time, while the men's 5k will start 30 minutes following the women's race.

Saturday's race will mark the fourth-straight year the Red Raiders open the season on the road and the second-straight year at the Lori Fitzgerald Memorial Open. In that meet, junior returner Ernest Cheruiyot placed second overall with a time of 14:06. Â As a freshman last season, Taytum Goodman placed sixth overall in her first collegiate cross country race clocking in at 18:04.
Titus Kimaru joins the roster this season after arriving at the start of the indoor track season in January. Kimaru capped off a stellar season in the 3k steeplechase with an appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Following tomorrow's meet, Tech will be off for the next week before hosting the annual Texas Tech Open at the LCU Cross Country Course on Friday, Sept. 12. Race times are TBD.
