No. 11 Arizona defeats Texas Tech in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 68 Texas Tech Red Raiders dropped their match to the No. 11-ranked Arizona Wildcats, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
Arizona (18-4, 3-2 Big 12) took the doubles point from Texas Tech (12-8, 2-3 Big 12) to begin the match, but it wasn't easy. At court one, No. 33-ranked Jay Friend and Eric Padgham defeated Piotr Pawlak and Sebastian Abboud by a 6-3 score. Both remaining courts were down, but not out. At court three, Niksa Arsic and Felipe Pagnacco teamed up to take on Casper Christensen and Filip Gustafsson. After going down 1-4, the Red Raiders would tie it at 5-5 before Arizona went ahead 6-5 on a held serve when their match went unfinished.
The doubles point was cinched by the Wildcats are court two after Inaki Cabrera-Bello and Glib Sekachov beat Takeyasu Sekiguchi and Tyler Stewart. Arizona was leading 4-0 until the Red Raider pair won four consecutive games. Both teams went back-and-forth after that, tying at 5-5 before the Wildcats were able to clinch the point with a 7-5 win.
Arizona would get its first singles win at court five when Christensen overtook Pagnacco, 6-2, 6-4. The Wildcats went up 3-0 after Alexander Rozin beat Ludovico Vaccari at court four, 6-2, 7-6 (5). Arizona clinched the match with a win at the top court from No. 8-ranked Friend over Pawlak, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
When the match was won, Arsic forced No. 89-ranked Zoran Ludoski into a third set after winning the second set by a 6-4 score. Sekiguchi was also ahead of Oskar Jansson in his second set at court six, 3-2, when it went unfinished.
Up next, the Red Raiders are back at the McLeod Tennis Center to host the TCU Horned Frogs on Sunday, April 6 at 12 p.m.
