Tech falls at No. 37 Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – Despite forcing four tiebreakers in the match, the No. 68 Texas Tech Red Raiders fell to the No. 37 Arizona State Sun Devils, 0-4, on Friday evening at the Whiteman Tennis Center.
In doubles, the No. 66-ranked Sun Devil pair of Matic Dimic and Mathis Bondas got the first doubles win of the match after defeating the Red Raider pair Tyler Stewart and Takeyasu Sekiguchi in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), at court three.
Arizona State (10-8, 1-3 Big 12) clinched the doubles point against Texas Tech (12-7, 2-2 Big 12) at court two after Roi Ginat and Nicola Cigna took down Thiago Guglieri and Niksa Arsic, 7-6 (2). On court one, the duo Piotr Pawlak and Sebastian Abboud were tied with ASU's Bor Artnak and Daniel Phillips, 6-6, when it went unfinished.
In singles, the Sun Devils took a 2-0 lead after Phillips took down Abboud at court five, 6-2, 6-2. Arizona State added to its lead when Cigna got a win over Stewart at court three, 6-1, 6-4. Clinching the match was Ginat at court six after he beat Guglieri by a 6-4, 6-1 score.
When the match was clinched Pawlak, on court one, was up in the second set, 5-4, after losing the first set, 6-3, to No. 50 Artnak. Arsic was down to No. 110-ranked Bondaz at court two, 7-6 (10), 2-0, after a tight first set. At court four, Vaccari was tied with Dimic in the second set, 5-5, after losing the first set, 6-3, when the match was called.
Up next, the Red Raiders will continue Big 12 play facing the Arizona Wildcats on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT in Tucson.
