
Tech heads to Arizona for two matches

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 68-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders are on the road for two matches this week. The Red Raiders will play at No. 37 Arizona State on Friday at 7 p.m. CT before going to Tucson to face No. 11 Arizona on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
Texas Tech (12-6) is 2-7 all-time against Arizona State and 8-7 all-time against Arizona. Tech last played Arizona State on March 11, 2023 and won in a close 4-3 outing. On February 22, 2019, the Red Raiders and Wildcats last faced off, with Arizona winning by a 4-3 score.
Texas Tech is coming off a 4-0 sweep of Abilene Christian on Tuesday. In that match, the Red Raiders won the doubles point thanks to victories at courts two and three. Then, Tech recorded wins in singles from Tyler Stewart, Thiago Guglieri and Felipe Pagnacco to secure the sweep.
Leading the Red Raiders in dual singles wins is freshman Ludovico Vaccari with 11, followed by Sebastian Abboud with 10. In dual doubles, Piotr Pawlak and Abboud are leading with 11 wins while the tandem of Niksa Arsic and Guglieri are just behind with a perfect 8-0 record on the season.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The No. 37 Arizona State Sun Devils are 9-7 overall and 0-3 in Big 12 play, with their three losses coming against Baylor, Arizona and Utah. The Sun Devils also picked up key wins against Baylor, Princeton and Boise State. In dual singles, the Sun Devils are led in wins by No. 50 Bor Artnak with 11, followed by Roi Ginat with eight. IN dual doubles, there are two teams with a team-best seven wins apiece – No. 48 Artnak and Matic Dimic as well as Daniel Phillips and Tanner Povey.
The No. 11 Arizona Wildcats are 16-4 on the season and 1-2 in Big 12 play. Their four losses were against TCU, UCF (twice) and Michigan State. Some key wins have come against San Diego, Pepperdine, Baylor and Florida State. The team is led in dual singles by No. 8 Jay Friend with 15 wins, followed by Alexander Rozin with 12 and No. 4 Colton Smith with 10. In dual doubles, the No. 33 duo of Friend and Eric Padgham lead the way with a 12-1 record.
