Red Raiders tame the Wolf Pack

LUBBOCK, Texas – Behind a dominating force in doubles and singles, the Texas Tech Red Raiders earned their first win of the weekend over the Nevada Wolf Pack., 4-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Texas Tech (6-4) took an early lead over Nevada (5-2) after securing the doubles point. On court three, Niksa Arsic and Thiago Guglieri faced off against Paul Théate and Max Contet. The Red Raider duo jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, then kept the momentum to win it by a 6-1 score.
On court two, Tyler Stewart and Ludovico Vaccari sealed the doubles point for Texas Tech with a 6-3 victory over Youssef Kadiri and Rémy Trégourès. The Red Raiders built a commanding lead with three unanswered games before the Wolfpack attempted to rally, but Stewart and Vaccari held firm to close out the match.
In singles play, Guglieri extended Texas Tech's momentum on court five, dominantly defeating Trégourès, 6-3, 6-1, for the second match point of the day. Arsic followed suit on court three, defeating Lucas Hammond with an identical 6-3, 6-1 score to push the Red Raiders ahead 3-0.
Nevada responded with a point on court one, where Kadiri defeated Piotr Pawlak, 6-2, 6-2, making the match score, 3-1. However, Sebastian Abboud delivered the clinching match in a competitive battle after Contet rallied back to make the score 4-3 in the first set. Abboud then won it by a 6-4 score, before sealing the victory with a 6-3 second set.
Up next, the Red Raiders return to the McLeod Tennis Center to face Florida Gulf Coast University on Sunday at 4 p.m.
