
Red Raiders host Nevada, FGCU this weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders are hosting the Nevada Wolf Pack and the Florida Gulf Coach University Eagles this weekend at the McLeod Tennis Center. First, Tech faces Nevada on Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m. before taking on FGCU on Sunday, February 23 at 4 p.m.
The Red Raiders lead the all-time series against Nevada, 1-0, while they play the Eagles for the first time in program history. In Tech's last meeting with Nevada on February 28, 2015, the Red Raiders came out with the 6-0 sweep of the Wolf Pack.
Texas Tech is 5-4 on the season and is coming off a split weekend at UTSA and at Rice, defeating the Roadrunners in a thrilling 4-3 match. Leading the team in dual singles wins are freshmen Thiago Guglieri and Ludovico Vaccari, who total five wins each. Niksa Arsic is just behind with four dual wins followed by a couple Red Raiders with three dual wins.
Tech is led in dual doubles by the newly-ranked No. 66 pairing of Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak, who lead the team with seven dual wins, all coming at the top of the lineup. In addition, the tandem of Arsic and Guglieri are a perfect 3-0 at court three.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Nevada is 5-1 on the season so far, getting wins against Saint Mary's, Gonzaga, Montana State, Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific. Their lone loss was at UC Santa Barbara on January 19 by a 1-6 score. The team is led in dual singles by Paul Theate with four wins, all coming at court three. Four other players are just behind with three dual singles wins each. In dual doubles, three pairs lead the way with a couple wins apiece.
FGCU is currently 3-7 on the season, with their three wins coming against Southern Miss, Air Force and Navy. The Eagles' most recent losses came twice against Auburn and to Florida. The team is led in dual singles by Hugo Magnusson with four wins, all coming at court one. In dual doubles, the duo of Magnusson and CJ Smith lead the way with a 3-3 record and two of those victories coming at the top court.
