Sanogo scores career high, Tech defeats Jacksonville

LUBBOCK, Texas – Sarengbe Sanogo scored a career-high in points and Bailey Maupin reached new feats as the Texas Tech Lady Raiders overtook the Jacksonville Dolphins, 76-40, on Wednesday afternoon at the United Supermarkets Arena.
For Texas Tech (13-0), Sanogo recorded a career-high of 14 points on a dominant 7-for-8 (.875) shooting from the field. Her seven field goals were also a career best as Sanogo tallied a team-leading six rebounds and two steals in just 13 minutes of play against Jacksonville (7-3). Maupin was in double-figures for the 11th time this year with 11 points, while adding a season and team-best of seven assists. The Gruver, Texas native now sits at 10th all-time in career scoring with a whopping 1,500 points.
Also recording a team-leading and season-high of 14 points in the game was Denae Fritz, who shot 50 percent from the field (5-for-10). Fritz picked up five rebounds and a steal in the game. Jalynn Bristow totaled her 11th double-digit game with 10 points and led the way with three blocks, her ninth time this year doing so.
In front of a sellout crowd of 15,098, the first sellout since March 1, 2006, the Lady Raiders would shoot 49.2 percent from the field (29-for-59) and outrebounded the Dolphins 43 to 33. Tech recorded 15 assists in the game and held Jacksonville to its lowest scoring total of the season. The Dolphins were also held to just 27.1 percent from the field (16-for-59) and 1-for-13 from behind the arc (.077).
With this win, the Lady Raiders move to 13-0 on the season and completed nonconference play undefeated for just the fifth time in program history. The only other times this happened were in 1999-00, 2003-04, 2011-12 and 2019-20. The 13-0 start is the third best start to a season as Tech went 16-0 in 2003-04 and 15-0 in 2011-12 to begin those seasons.
Saengbe Sanogo started the game with back-to-back layups to make it 4-0 early. Fritz extended the run with a second-chance layup, before Jacksonville scored its first points almost five minutes into the quarter. The Dolphins cut into the lead with another basket, but Snudda Collins came in and stopped their short run with a turnaround jumper heading into the media timeout. Maupin continued the Tech scoring with a couple of free throws before Jacksonville scored four-straight points. Sidney Love nailed a three, then Gemma Núñez converted a successful and-one play for the 16-8 lead. The Dolphins made two free throws to end the quarter as the Lady Raiders held a 16-10 advantage.

The Lady Raiders followed with a second-chance layup from Love after Tech got the offensive rebound. The Lady Raiders closed the half out on a 10-2 run, highlighted by a fastbreak layup from Núñez and a 3-pointer from Maupin as Tech led, 32-14 at half.

Jacksonville answered back with a 4-0 run of their own before Sanogo scored once again after grabbing an offensive board to help Tech lead, 50-28, after three.
