August 19, 2026 | Women's Basketball
Six home matchups highlight Texas Tech’s slate, beginning Nov. 5
LUBBOCK, Texas – The non-conference schedule for the Lady Raiders is officially set.
Coming off one of the most successful non-conference showings in program history, head coach Krista Gerlich and her team will look to build off its perfect 13-0 non-conference record, welcoming UNC Charlotte on Nov. 5 to begin the 2026-27 season.
The Lady Raiders will also host Lamar, Auburn, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas Southern and North Florida at United Supermarkets Arena before beginning Big 12 play. In addition to its home slate, Tech will compete in two non-conference tournaments, as announced earlier this summer: the WBCA Showcase in Orlando, Fla., and Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The Lady Raiders will close out their road non-conference schedule with one final trip in mid-December to Mississippi State.
Prior to the start of the non-conference slate, the Lady Raiders will host Angelo State in an exhibition match on Oct. 18. The exhibition will take place inside United Supermarkets Arena and will be open to the public, with an official game time to be announced at a later date.
Thursday, November 5 vs. UNC Charlotte
The season-opening matchup against UNC Charlotte will also mark the first meeting between the two programs. Under the guidance of third-year head coach Tomekia Reed, the 49ers are coming off a 14-18 season, including an 8-10 record in American Athletic Conference play. Charlotte's season came to an end in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament, where the 49ers fell just short, 74-70, against Florida Atlantic.
Monday, November 9 vs. Lamar
The Lady Raiders will look to continue their dominance over Lamar, entering the matchup with a perfect 12-0 record against the Cardinals. The programs first met in 1979, when the Lady Raiders cruised to an 83-47 victory. The teams last squared off in 2024, with Texas Tech earning a 73-67 win on Dec. 17 at United Supermarkets Arena. Lamar, a member of the Southland Conference, finished last season with a 20-11 record and advanced to the opening round of the WNIT.
Friday, November 13 vs. Auburn
For the first time in nearly two decades, the Lady Raiders will take on the Auburn Tigers inside United Supermarkets Arena. The two programs have met just twice, splitting the previous meetings. Texas Tech dominated the first matchup in 1994, cruising to a 66-35 victory. Auburn answered in the team's most recent meeting on Dec. 14, 1996, handing the Lady Raiders a 70-55 defeat. Auburn enters the matchup looking to build on a season that saw the Tigers finish 3-13 in SEC play under first-year head coach Larry Vickers. Despite the struggles, Auburn closed the season with a bright spot, earning its first SEC Tournament victory in two years in the opening round before bowing out in the second round to Ole Miss to close the season.
Sunday, November 15 vs. Southeastern Louisiana
The Lady Raiders will close out their first homestand of the season on Sunday, Nov. 15, when they welcome Southeastern Louisiana to town before hitting the road for a two-tournament stretch. Texas Tech enters the matchup with a 3-1 record against the Lions. After dropping the first meeting in 1978, the Lady Raiders have won three straight since, including the most recent matchup in 2021. Southeastern Louisiana enters the season with second-year head coach Jeff Dow at the helm, looking to turn the page after finishing 5-24 last season.
Tuesday, December 1 vs. Texas Southern
Following a two-week trip south for the WBCA Showcase and Paradise Jam, the Lady Raiders will return to United Supermarkets Arena to welcome Lone Star State foe Texas Southern. Tech leads the all-time series against the Tigers, 2-0, with the most recent meeting coming in 2018 where Texas Tech earned a solid 75-55 victory. Entering her fifth season at the helm, Vernette Skeete looks to continue the turnaround of the Texas Southern program after the Tigers finished 10-21 overall last season and bowed out in the opening round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament.
Sunday, December 13 vs. Mississippi State
The team will embark on its final road trip of the non-conference slate in mid-December, traveling to Starkville, Mississippi, to face Mississippi State. Tech leads the all-time series against the Bulldogs, 2-0, including a 69-62 comeback victory at home last season on Nov. 20. Led by fifth-year head coach Sam Purcell, Mississippi State will enter the season looking to build on an 18-13 campaign and make a push back toward the NCAA Tournament after narrowly missing out on a postseason bid last year. The Bulldogs return one of the SEC's top forwards in Madison Francis, who was a key contributor across the board last season. Francis led Mississippi State in scoring (13.2 points per game), blocks (2.8) and steals (1.6), while ranking second on the team in rebounding (7.4).
Wednesday, December 16 vs. North Florida
The Lady Raiders will round out their non-conference schedule back at home, taking on the University of North Florida in a first-time meeting between the two programs. The Ospreys are coming off a 9-21 season under fourth-year head coach Erika Lambert. Despite the difficult campaign, UNF returns all three of its leading scorers in guards Alonya Waldon and Jamisyn Stinson and forward Dezuray McGill. The trio combined to account for nearly half of the Ospreys' total scoring last season.
In total, Gerlich has led the Lady Raiders to a 61-11 non-conference record since taking the reins of the program prior to the start of the 2020-21 season. Her success in non-conference play includes a perfect 13-0 mark during the 2025-26 season, making it just the fifth undefeated non-conference season in Lady Raider history. The flawless start set the tone for one of the program's most successful seasons in recent years, as the Lady Raiders went on to win 19 consecutive games. The historic run marked the best start in program history while also matching the program record for the longest single-season winning streak at 19 games.
