Lady Raiders play at Washington State Friday

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders head to Pullman, Wash., for a game against the Washington State Cougars on Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. CT. Texas Tech, who is receiving votes in both polls, leads the all-time series against Washington State with a 4-0 record, winning the last matchup on Nov. 16, 2024 by a 56-52 score.
The Lady Raiders (10-0) last earned a 40-point victory over the Wichita State Shockers on Dec. 3, winning that game by an 83-43 score. Four Lady Raiders were in double-figures while Jada Malone and Gemma Núñez recorded 10 rebounds apiece. Tech totaled 53 rebounds in the game, the first time doing so since Nov. 17, 2023. The Scarlet & Black shot 45.9 percent from the field (28-for-61) and 41.7 percent from three (10-for-24). The Lady Raiders held the Shockers to 23.2 percent from the field (13-for-56) and 4-for-20 from behind the arc (.200). This was also Tech's first 40+ point win since Nov. 7, 2023.
The Lady Raiders increased their bench points average by four points after the game against Wichita State last week. The bench put up a whopping 49 points against the Shockers, increasing their season average to 30.3 bench points per game. This now ranks 27th nationally and third in the conference. The Lady Raiders 25.8 scoring margin is good for 21st in the nation. Tech has outscored opponents by at least 20 points eight times so far, while also outscoring four teams by 30+ points this year.
Senior Jada Malone has scored in double-digits in three of the last four games, with a season high 19 points coming against Wichita State last week. She is shooting 17-for-25 (.680) from the field and also added two games with 5+ rebounds. Her 10 rebounds against the Shockers is a season high and helped record her first double-double at Tech and third of her career.
The Lady Raiders' defense has been stifling all season. Texas Tech has held its opponents to under 40 percent shooting from the field in all 10 games, while holding eight teams to under 35 percent shooting from the field. Four times have the Lady Raiders held teams to under 20 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Scarlet & Black are holding teams to just 30.4 percent from the field to rank second nationally in the category, while also holding teams to 23.7 percent from the three to check in at ninth. In addition, the Lady Raiders are forcing 21.60 turnovers per game and are holding opponents to 52.1 points per game, which ranks 39th and 12th in the country, respectively. The team's 5.8 blocks per game is also 17th nationally.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Washington State is 1-8 on the season, with losses coming against LSU, BYU, Oregon and Missouri. The Cougars' one win was over Miami (Ohio) by a 71-67 score on Nov. 28. There are two players who average double-figure scoring on the season in Eleonora Villa (17.3) and Charlotte Abraham (10.9). On the rebounding side, Abraham leads the team with 5.8 per game, followed by Malia Ruud with 4.1. As a team, Washington State is scoring 57.7 points per game to their opponents' 74.9 points per game. Shooting 37.5 percent from the field, the Cougars also total 30.4 rebounds per game and 12.4 assists per game.
