
Cross Country wraps up first meet of the season

Texas Tech will now rest for a week before coming back home for hosting duties
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Texas Tech cross country team put on a strong showing in its first meet of the season with both meet winners coming from the men's and women's teams Saturday morning at the NMSU Golf Course.
Juliet Cherubet kicked off the women's 5k first as she placed first overall with a time of 17:06 as Anastasia Chepkorir finished in third with a time of 17:33. Meanwhile, newcomer Sheilah Bii placed fourth overall at 17:35 as another newcomer in Taytum Goodman finished sixth at 18:04 and Hannah Spears rounded out the top-10 in eighth with a time of 18:08.
Over on the men's side, it was a close battle for the top-2 spots between freshman Solomon Kipchoge and Ernest Cheruiyot. Kipchoge ultimately took the top spot at 14:03, while Cheruiyot was on his heels at 14:06. Newcomer Edwin Kiprono rounded out the top-10 for the men finishing seventh (14:42).
