
Lady Raiders shine in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas – It was another dominating tournament for the Texas Tech Lady Raiders as they recorded 17 overall wins in 22 matches at the Jae Foundation Fall Open. In those wins, Tech was almost perfect in doubles matches while earning 10 singles victories in total.
In singles, both Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Mariia Hlahola went undefeated on the weekend. Dmitrichenko picked up wins against Megan Heuser of Illinois, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10), as well as Gian Octa of Missouri, 6-3, 6-1. She ended the tournament with a ranked singles victory against No. 116-ranked Gracie Mulville of Kansas, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (7).
Hlahola also recorded up three wins at the tournament when she defeated Illinois' Kida Ferrari, 6-2, 6-1, Missouri's Sarah Hartel, 6-1, 6-2, and Kansas's Kyoka Kubo, 6-0, 6-4. Hlahola was the only Lady Raider in singles to not drop a set at all.
Junior Andreea Lila added another win against Illinois for Tech when she beat Ariel Madatali, 6-2, 6-1, as did freshman Elena Daskalova, who downed Rosie Seccia, 6-3, 6-2. Hailey Murphy was able to record a victory against in-state rival Lizanne Boyer of Texas A&M, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (4), while junior Arina Oreshchenkova wrapped up the singles wins with one over Northwestern's Maia Loureiro, 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles, two pairs were a perfect, 3-0 this weekend. First, the duo of Hlahola and Murphy were impressive at the tournament, recording two ranked wins together. First, they took down ITA Texas Regional finalists and No. 47-ranked Tomi Main and Yu-Chin Tsai of TCU, 6-0, before beating Texas A&M's Boyer and Jeanette Mireles, 6-2. They got another ranked victory when they took down the No. 69-ranked duo out of Kansas, Mulville and Heike Janse van Vuuren, 7-5.
The other Lady Raider tandem to go undefeated was Daskalova and Oreshchenkova, who started the competition out with a win against Missouri's Lailaa Bashir and Octa, 6-4. They then would go on to defeat Notre Dame's Kate Bellia and Maria Olivia Castedo, 6-3, before rounding out the tournament with a win over Kansas' Meriem Ben Ezzedine and Simryn Jacob, 6-1. The pairing of Dmitrichenko and Lila also tallied a doubles win this weekend when they overtook the Kansas duo of Jasmine Adams and Kubo, 6-3.
Up next, the Lady Raiders head to Houston to compete in the Rice Invitational on Nov. 7-10.
