DALLAS – For the seventh time this season, the No. 28 Texas Tech Lady Raiders recorded a sweep after taking down the No. 48 SMU Mustangs, 4-0, at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Raiders (10-4) recorded their ninth doubles point of the year against the Mustangs (6-5). SMU had the slight advantage after the duo of Hadley Doyle and Lana Mavor defeated Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Camryn Stepp at court three, 6-2.
Over at court one, Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova were competing against Maja Makoric and Jackie Nylander. The Lady Raider tandem took a 4-1 lead before the SMU pair clawed their way back to tie it up at 4-all. Komac and Sayfetdinova kept up the fight, eventually holding and breaking serve to win their match at 6-4.
All eyes were on court two as Olivia Peet and Cristina Tiglea were locked in a battle with Taylor Johnson and Drew Morris. Tied at 6-6, the Lady Raiders would go up 5-1 in the breaker before the SMU pair won three-consectuive points for a 5-4 score. But, the Lady Raider pair chipped away and won the next two points to clinch the doubles point, 7-6 (4).
The Lady Raiders kept it rolling in singles, ultimately picking up their seventh sweep of the year.
It started when freshman Arina Oreshchenkova collected her seventh dual singles win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Reka Patel at court six. Dmitrichenko followed that up immediately with a straight-set win over Mavor at court five, 6-3, 6-3, which pushes her total singles wins to a team-high 18.
It would be Sayfetdinova who, for a team-leading fourth time this season, clinched the match for Tech. Taking on Johnson at court two, Sayfetdinova would win the first set by a 6-2 score. Going up 5-3 in the second set, the Moscow, Russia native was down 40-15 as Johnson was trying to serve it out and stay alive. But, Sayfetdinova would come back and win three-straight points to break Johnson's serve and win the match, 6-2, 6-3.
Up next, the Lady Raiders begin Big 12 play with a contest against Oklahoma on Friday, March 17 in Norman, Okla.
