Red Raiders tally nine wins at Duel in the Desert tournament

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Over the course of three days, the Red Raiders picked up nine total wins against student-athletes from Georgia, Kansas and Auburn at the Duel in the Desert tournament.
On the first day of competition, the Red Raiders took on players from conference-foe, Kansas, and they were able to grab two singles wins and a doubles win against the Jayhawks. Cristina Tiglea defeated KU's Heike Janse Van Vuuren in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Then, Avelina Sayfetdinova picked up her third ranked victory of the year when she overtook No. 26-ranked Malkia Ngounoue, 6-4, 7-5. Sayfetdinova also added another win on the day when she and Metka Komac defeated Kansas' Tamari Gagoshidze and Maria Titova, 6-2.
On the second day, the Red Raiders picked up four more victories. Olivia Peet collected her first ranked win of the season when she defeated No. 43 Ariana Arseneault, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Komac added another singles dub when she beat Angella Okutoyi, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles against the Tigers, Peet and Tiglea paired up to defeat DJ Bennett and Adeline Flach, 7-5, while Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Camryn Stepp posted a win against Carolyn Ansari and Kaitlyn Carnicella, 6-3.
On the final day of competition, the Red Raiders earned two more wins, this time against players from the University of Georgia. Komac picked up the lone singles win against Guillermina Grant, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. Then, Komac and Sayfetdinova beat the Georgia pairing of Ania Hertel and Dasha Vidmanova, 6-2, to close out the tournament.
Up next, the Red Raiders come back home for three dual matches next Saturday and Sunday against Incarnate Word, ACU and UTEP.
