
Tech falls to No. 29 UCSB

Despite wins from Cristina Tigles and Metka Komac in singles, Tech fell 5-2
FORT WORTH – The Texas Tech women's tennis program fell to the No. 29 UCSB Gauchos 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
With the setback, No. 34 Texas Tech (6-4) has now lost three straight matches since starting the season 6-1.
Tech got off to a slow start Friday, as UCSB (7-5) won both doubles matches (6-2, 6-4) to take the doubles point.
The Gauchos quickly took a 2-0 lead when Shakhnoza Khatamova defeated No. 16 Margarita Skriabina 6-1, 6-1. After opening the season 6-0 and winning 10 of her first 11 matches, Skriabina has now lost back-to-back matches.
Tech got on the board on court six, when true freshman Cristina Tiglea cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Kira Reuter.
After dropping the opening set 6-1, Olivia Peet was up 5-4 in the second set before ultimately falling in a tiebreaker 7-2. With the victory on court two, UCSB took a 3-1 lead.
The Gauchos ultimately sealed the victory on court four when Amelia Horner defeated Kailey Evans 6-0, 7-5.
The two teams proceeded to split the matches on court three and five. Sophomore Metka Komac won a three-set battle on court five (4-6, 6-3, 7-5) after No. 62 Avelina Sayfetdinova fell (6-3, 4-6, 3-6) on court three.
