Women's Tennis Advances at ITA Texas Regionals

Four Lady Raiders, two doubles pairs advance to round of 32

WACO, Texas – Four Lady Raiders qualified for the Round of 32 in the singles main draw of the ITA Texas Regional Championships Thursday in Waco, Texas.

After receiving first-round byes for their top seeds, Sarah Dvorak, Gabriela Talaba, Alex Valenstein and Sabrina Federici move on to the Round of 32.

Dvorak defeated Stephen F. Austin's Lauren Hidalgo-Smith in two sets (6-4, 6-0). Tabala followed with a two set win over Sam Houston State's Ema Barkovic (6-1, 6-1). Valenstein pulled out a competitive two-setter against conference rival Elizabeth Profit of Baylor (6-1, 7-6 (3)), forcing three tiebreaks. Federici took down Ivana Babic of North Texas, 6-0, 6-3.

Katelyn Jackson advanced to the Round of 64 with a win over Caroline Wegner of TCU (6-4, 6-3). She later fell to North Texas' Alexis Thoma (6-2, 6-3) in the round of 64.

The Lady Raiders were undefeated in doubles action. The pair of Reagan Collins and Katelyn Jackson pulled off an 8-3 win over UT-Arlington's Carla Cerdan Vives and Valeria Lopez in the Round of 64 while Alba Cortina-Pou and Lynn Kiro defeated Alexandra Heczey and Minying Liang from UNT, 8-5.

Sarah Dvorak and Federici and Gabriela Talaba and Alex Valenstein earned first round byes with top seeds and will play in the Round of 32 on Friday beginning at 9 a.m.

The Lady Raiders continue regionals play Friday beginning with main draw doubles at 9 a.m. The singles bracket will follow.
