FORT WORTH, Texas -- Amber Battle returned to her usual form and scored 20 points but Tech could not keep up in the second half as TCU pulled away with a 71-60 win on Sunday at University Recreation Center.
Battle played nearly all 40 minutes and hit 9 of 17 from the floor while grabbing eight rebounds and three steals. Tech (13-10, 3-8 Big 12) stayed with TCU for most of the first half and eventually took a 22-16 lead on the heels of a quick 6-0 run with 7:36 left before halftime. Then TCU began forcing turnovers and scoring from the outside with AJ Alix, Chelsea Prince and Caitlin Diaz hitting threes during a 13-2 run to help the Forgs have a 38-33 lead at the break.
TCU (14-8, 6-5) struggled initially out of the break but eventually got into rhythm during a 10-2 run to expand its lead to as much as 16 while Tech hit just one field goal in the first eight minutes.
The Lady Raiders cut it to as little as eight points with less than two minutes to play as Minta Spears scored in double figures for only the second time in conference play with 13.
Tech returns home on Wednesday to take on Iowa State (15-7, 6-5) at 7 p.m.
