
Baylor Tops Texas Tech in Straight Sets

WACO, Texas - Baylor overcame a 7-2 deficit in the opening set and kept its momentum going into a straight-set (25-19, 25-23, 25-18) victory over Texas Tech Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center.
The loss marked Tech's third-straight in Big 12 play, dropping the Red Raiders to 14-4 overall and 0-3 in conference. Baylor, meanwhile, improved to 13-6 overall and 2-3 in league play.
After such a strong opening, Tech began its struggles midway through the first set as the Bears eventually tied the match at 17 before finishing with an 8-2 run to close the frame.
The Red Raiders had no answer for Baylor from then on as the Bears controlled the final two sets, extending its win streak to 13-straight over Tech.
Briana Telbert led the way for Baylor, finishing with 15 kills in the middle and a .583 hitting percentage. Torri Campbell chipped in 11 kills as well as the duo had only two errors between them.
Tech, meanwhile, struggled to score as the Red Raiders were held to only 34 kills, its second-lowest total of the season. The Red Raiders registered only 13 attacking errors in the match en route to a .175 hitting percentage.
Breeann David and Amanda Dowdy led Tech with 10 kills each while Miara Cave added nine of her own as the trio combined for 29 of Tech's 34 kills overall.
Setter Karlyn Meyers finished with 25 assists and five digs in her final match in Waco, which is roughly 20 miles from her hometown of China Spring.
Dowdy extended her double-double streak to 10-straight as she also added 15 digs in the match, while Tory Vaughan dug a team-high 18 from the libero position.
Kayci Evans recorded a match-high 19 digs for Baylor, which had four players register double-digits in the category as Qian Zhang and Jordan Rice had 11 and Kate Harris added 10 of her own.
The Red Raiders return to the court this Saturday as Tech takes on Kansas State in a 1 p.m. match at the United Spirit Arena.
