Volleyball loses to Colorado in straight sets
BOULDER, Colorado โ Texas Tech (8-14, 0-10) fell to Colorado (16-5, 7-4) in straight sets on Sunday afternoon.
Tatum Johnson led the team with eight kills while hitting .500. Gretchen Sigman and Aviya Russo each had five kills while Sara Bowcutt, Elia Dinsmore and Shelby Ignash combined for 10 kills to round out the major scorers for Tech. Katelyn Cochran led the team in assists (23) and digs (9).
Colorado's Ana Burilovic recorded a double-double with 13 kill and 12 digs while Cayla Payne had 10 kill and six blocks while hitting .615 for the Buffs.
Johnson was strong in her return to Colorado, finding the floor in each of her first three attacks of the match and getting in on a block with Sigman. The Buffs took a 15-10 lead into the media timeout and went on to win the set 25-18. Tech didn't hit bad in the set, but five service errors by the Red Raiders killed some of the momentum from the team's offense.
After finishing the first set with four kills, Johnson got the offense going again in the second set as Tech went up 4-1 thanks to her back-to-back kills to start the set. Colorado rebounded and took a 9-8 lead thanks to a 3-0 run which was quickly answered by a 3-0 run by Tech. Both teams continued to answer runs with runs as the set reached a win-by-two scenario that the Buffs would win 27-25.
It was all Buffs in the third set. Tech did have a 6-1 run in the middle of the set to cut into the damage, but Colorado took care of business with a 25-11 win to complete the sweep.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will be back home to face Arizona State on Friday and Arizona on Sunday.
