Aggies Win Slugfest

LUBBOCK, Texas - Logan Hall went 3-for-4 with a home run and four runs batted in, but it wasn't enough as No. 20 Texas A&M handed Tech a 10-6 defeat in the opening game of their series. With the win the Aggies improve to 38-13, 9-6, while Tech falls to 35-14, 7-10 in the Big 12.
Ashly Jacobs (13-7) took the loss for Tech as the right hander pitched four innings and gave up six runs, five earned, on six hits and a pair of walks. The senior struck out four before giving way to relievers Karli Merlich (two and two-thirds, four runs--all earned--on seven hits and a walk, with four strike outs) and Ashley Brokeshoulder who recorded the final out.
Hall knocked in runs in the first (with a two-out double), in the third (with a two-out single) and in the sixth (with a two-out, two-run home run). Emily Bledsoe and Jennifer Lee each picked up a pair of hits and Mikey Kenney, Leah Legler, Raven Richardson and Holley Gentsch each notched hits for the Red Raiders, who left eight runners onn base.
Rhiannon Kliesing hit her ninth home run of the season with a two-run shot with two outs in the first inning and five Aggies collected two hits in the game as Texas A&M outhit Tech, 13-11, on the breezy, cool day. Melissa Dumezich went the distance and collected her 14th win (against one loss) of the season, despite giving up the 11 hits and six runs (five earned).
The teams conclude their series tomorrow at noon. A senior celebration will be held honoring out-going players, Jacobs, Legler and Danielle Matthews, which will begin approximately 15 minutes before game time.
