LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team completed its fall schedule on Friday with a doubleheader sweep of Lubbock Christian that wrapped an 8-0 campaign for the Red Raiders.
The Red Raiders defeated the Chaps, 3-0, in the day's first game that saw Tech use primary its younger players against LCU's junior varsity squad. With both team's everyday players in the lineup for game two, the Red Raiders overcame an early one-run deficit to prevail 8-3.
Mikey Kenney and Cydney Allen both delivered clutch hits for the Red Raiders in the second game as Kenney delivered Tech's first two runs and Allen cleared the bases with a 3 RBI double.
In the circle, Kelsey Dennis allowed a run in the first inning but quickly settled down before giving way to Karli Merlich. Kermitria Ward pitched the final inning, allowing two runs.
With its competitive schedule complete, the Red Raiders still have a few practices remaining in the fall semester before taking off for winter break and returning in early January.
Tech begins the 2011 season against BYU on Feb. 10 as part of the Arizona State Kajikawa Tournament. The entire Texas Tech 2011 schedule will be announced in the next few weeks.
