Tech Drops Series To Missouri On Senior Day

LUBBOCK, Texas - Missouri picked up right where they left off on Saturday, scoring 10 runs on 12 hits en route to a series clinching, 10-3, victory over Texas Tech on Sunday. Senior pitcher Alex Watkins struck out five batters in the complete game loss, and junior Leah Legler went 2-2 on the day.
Missouri (40-5/10-2) got on the board early with two runs in the top of the first, while Tech (14-36/2-12) would go down in order in the bottom of the frame. The Tigers picked up three more in the second on a double by Rhea Taylor followed by a two-run home run by Gina Schneider. Micaela Minner then singled up the middle, and scored when Andee Allen singled to right field to give Missouri the advantage, 5-0.
Texas Tech mounted a rally in the bottom of the frame, when Ashley Hamada got a leadoff single to right field. With Hamada on first, Danielle Matthews laid down a sacrifice bunt and advanced to second on an error by the Tiger first baseman. With runners on second and third, Leah Legler singled to score Hamada, and advanced an extra base on an error by the right fielder. With runners again on second and third, Elizabeth Eimen singled to score Matthews while Legler was thrown out at third. Stephanie Drewry followed that up reaching on a fielder's choice, which advanced Eimen to third. Emily Bledsoe was then hit by a pitch, and with the bases loaded, Holley Gentsch reached on an error by the Tiger third baseman to score Eimen, to pull within two, 5-3.
Missouri did not go away quietly, scoring three runs in the fourth on a three-run homerun by Lindsey Ubrun to up the lead to, 8-3. The Tigers added two more runs, one in the fifth and one in the seventh to take the game and the series, 10-3.
Watkins pitched the complete game loss striking out five and falling to 3-14 on the season. Legler went 2-2 with two singles and an RBI. Eimen, Hamada, and Matthews got the other three hits for the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech will travel to El Paso, Texas, on Thursday to face UTEP in a doubleheader. Game times are schedule for 4 and 6 pm. CT. Fans can follow the action at www.texastech.com
