AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Tech Women's Tennis Team once again proved itself as a viable threat in doubles, but could not quite find a break dropping the match in singles to the No. 21 Texas Longhorns, 6-1. The Lady Raiders ended their regular season today with a record of 11-11, 4-7 in conference play.
Senior Brenna Jackson and Kerryn Potgieter started off the match with a quick 8-3 win over Stephanie Davison and Caroline Larsson, putting away their fifth conference win at No. 2. The Longhorns retaliated by winning at No. 3 doubles, but it was the No. 1 pair of Janet Durham and Samantha van der Drift who clinched the doubles point for the fifth time this season over Vanja Corovic and Marija Milic, improving to 6-3 in the Big 12.
Texas came out strong in singles and took straight set wins all five of six positions. Tech's van der Drift refused to go down without a fight as she took No. 61 Vanja Corovic to three sets in the last match of the day. Corovic slipped by in the first set tiebreaker, followed by van der Drift retaliating with the 6-2 win in the second, but it was Corovic who pulled away and took the third set super-tiebreaker win.
The Lady Raiders next head for the 2008 Big 12 Tournament beginning Thurs., April 24. For more information and a compete draw, visit www.big12sports.com.
