LUBBOCK, Texas - During the 2008 fall season, the Texas Tech softball team welcomed seven new comers. Over the next few weeks we will introduce you to the new faces and this week we introduce Holley Gentsch and Ashley Hamada.
Gentsch joins the Red Raiders from Hewitt, Texas, and Hamada hails from Touchet, Washington.
Q&A with Holley Gentsch and Ashley Hamada
What is the main difference between your hometown and Lubbock?
Holley:The main difference between Waco and Lubbock is the amount of support the community has for their local Big 12 school. Just driving around Lubbock there is a Tech sticker on almost every car you see, and the churches and businesses here support the school so much as well.
Ashley:The main difference would be the size of Lubbock. It is quite bigger than my hometown and it is nice to be in a bigger city.
Being here a couple of weeks already, what are some things you enjoy about Lubbock?
Holley:I enjoy the atmosphere and the friendliness of people here in Lubbock.
Ashley:The way the town embraces Texas Tech is pretty amazing and the laid-back feel makes being here enjoyable.
Why did you choose to come to Texas Tech?
Holley:I chose to come to Texas Tech to be a part of its growing softball program and to get a good education.
Ashley:I liked the school and it would provide me with the opportunity of furthering my education and also playing softball for a great program.
What's your favorite part about being a Red Raider?
Holley:I chose to come to Texas Tech to be a part of their growing softball program and to get a good education.
Ashley:I liked the school and it would provide me with the opportunity of furthering my education and also playing softball for a great program.
What are you most looking forward to in the upcoming season?
Holley:I am looking forward to all the new experiences and new memories that will be created.
Ashley:: I am just looking forward to playing at the collegiate level. It is something that I have been working very hard to achieve and for it to finally be here is exciting.
What are some personal goals you have set for this season?
Holley:My main personal goal is to just play to my potential wherever my coach needs me so I can help my team make it to the College World Series.
Ashley:I hope to contribute to the team in the role that is designated for me. I want to have an immediate impact both in the outfield and at the plate as well.
How do you feel about your new teammates?
Holley:I love all my new teammates. They are so nice, helpful, and I enjoy being around these hardworking girls.
Ashley:They are great and a lot of fun. All of them are very supportive and will help you with anything you need.
What's your favorite part about being a Red Raider?
Holley:My favorite part about being a Red Raider is being able to represent Texas Tech and proving to others what a great school Tech is.
Ashley:I like the fact that you are a part of something that is much bigger than you. Being a Red Raider means that you are carrying on a tradition of hard work and excellence.
