LUBBOCK, Texas - As part of its fall workouts, the Red Raiders will take part in a tournament in Canyon at the Lady Buff Yard on the campus of West Texas A&M on Saturday, October 6. Texas Tech will scrimmage Vernon at 12:30 p.m. and will face the host squad, West Texas A&M, immediately following that at 2:15 p.m.
"Fall games give us a chance to compete early in our practice season," fourth-year head coach Teresa Wilson said. "This is a chance for us to insert our newcomers, move veterans around and generally see where we are early in our development for the 2008 campaign."
The 2007 squad finished strong, winning six of its final seven games, and included a trip to the Big 12 Tournament championship game. Newcomers Tye Coats (freshman pitcher), Jen Lee (freshman catcher), Lauren Preston (freshman infielder) and Jaimee Stinson (junior infielder) join 14 returning veterans who comprised that team and who look to make big improvements in 2008.
Fall games, which also include a tournament in the Houston area on Oct. 13-14, do not count as part of the NCAA schedule of events, but are an excellent way for teams to compete during the off-season. The 2008 schedule has not been officially announced yet, but should be posted within the next few weeks on this Web site.
Note: There are those who have commented that this simple news story doesn't feature any humor or interesting tidbits. (Apparently, we became known for such things during the 2007 season.) While we will endeavor to bring you morsels of joy through our accounts of activities for your lives throughout the 2007-08 academic year, sometimes, we just want to bring you the facts as quickly as we know them.
