
Five Qualify for Finals at NCAA Track

Sacramento, Calif. - Texas Tech track and field completed day one of competition at the NCAA Championships, at Hornet Stadium, in Sacramento, Calif., on Wednesday. Five Red Raiders qualified for finals out of today's prelims.
Freshman Sabrina Taylor qualified for the finals of the long jump with an 11th-place finish and a leap of 20'-7". The finals of the event will be contested on Thursday.
Althea Chambers advanced out of the prelims of the 800M. Chambers finished second in her heat and was the seventh-fastest qualifier. Chambers' prelim time of 2:06.41 is a season best and the third-fastest time of her career. The semifinals will be held on Thursday.
In the 5000M, Irene Kimaiyo ran a 16:23.39 in the prelims and qualified for the fiunals of the event that will be held on Friday.
Sage Thames will be competing in the finals of the pole vault on Friday. Thames cleared 17'-4.5" and finished ninth in the prelims.
In the 110M hurdles prelims, Marlon Odom clocked a 13.85 and Shawon Harris ran a 14.26. Odom qualified for the semis and clocked a 13.66 to qualify for the finals of the events that will be held on Friday.
In the women's discus prelims, D'Andra Carter finished 13th with a throw of 160'-9" and Patience Knight was 18th with a 158'-10". Both missed qualifying for the finals of the event.
Bobby Evers finished 18th in the prelims of the long jump with a mark of 23'-10.75" and missed qualifying for the finals of the event.
Lacy Wilson finished 15th in the prelims of the high jump. She cleared 5'-9.75" and missed qualifying for the finals of the event.
