LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Texas Tech softball dropped a 3-2 decision to Kansas on Sunday at Arrocha Ballpark as the Jayhawks completed the sweep of the two-game Big 12 Conference series.
The loss drops Tech's overall record to 18-26 this season and its conference mark to 4-6. Kansas, meanwhile improves its season record to 23-20 and its Big 12 record to 4-6.
The Red Raiders jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning, scoring on a RBI single by sophomore Jennifer Corkin and a run-scoring ground out off the bat of junior designated player Brandy Moulin. The two unearned runs were the only that Tech could manage in the contest as they collected only two hits the rest of the way off KU pitcher Kassie Humphreys, who picked up her second win of the series.
Kansas was able to chip away at the initial Tech advantage and tie the game with a run the bottom of the first and a tally in the home half of the second.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Jayhawks were able to take their first lead of the game at 3-2 on a RBI single by Nicole Washburn to left field.
Tech starting pitcher Julie Hauck allowed two runs in 1 1/3 innings of work, while fellow senior Erin Crawford (11-12) took the loss despite pitching well in relief.
Corkin posted her fifth multiple hit game of the season in a 2-for-3 effort that included her ninth RBI of the year.
Red Raider softball is back in action on Tuesday when they host the Oklahoma State Cowgirls in a doubleheader at Rocky Johnson Field.
