LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas pitcher Cat Osterman pitched a one-hit complete game shutout to lift No. 2 Texas to a 6-0 victory over Texas Tech Softball in the first game of a doubleheader at Rocky Johnson Field on Wednesday.
The loss drops Texas Tech overall record this season to 18-29 and 4-9 in Big 12 action, while Texas improves to 44-4 overall and 10-1 in league action.
The Longhorns took an early 2-0 lead in the contest when senior second baseman Chez Sievers doubled to left field to score a pair of runners.
Texas leadoff hitter Desiree Williams put Texas up 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning as she led off the frame with her 11th home run of the season off Tech reliever Sarah Losleben.
Losleben pitched well in relief of Tech starter Erin Crawford, tossing the final five innings of the contest allowing only one earned run.
Cat Osterman held the Red Raider offense to no hits until the bottom of the fifth, when sophomore outfielder Whitney Riley reached on an infield single to shortstop.
In the top of the sixth, the Longhorns broke the game open by scoring three unearned runs on a couple of two-out Tech errors.
Texas Tech softball is back in action this weekend when they host the No. 15 Nebraska Cornhuskers at Rocky Johnson Field in a two-game Big 12 series.
