
Texas Tech Handles Kansas in Five

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Texas Tech volleyball squad picked up a win in Lawrence, Kan., over the Jayhawks on Saturday night. The Red Raiders defeated Kansas 3-2 to take both matches from the Jayhawks during the season. Tech earned the victory after being down 2-1 and won by scores of 27-30, 30-28, 22-30, 30-28, 15-9. The win brings Tech to an 11-11 overall record and 4-9 in conference play, while dropping Kansas to 10-12, 3-10 Big 12.
Despite being out-hit in the first game .194 to .085, Kansas pulled out the victory. In game two, Tech went on a 4-2 run to put the game away after a 26-all tie. In the third game, Kansas hit well with a .302 average to win 30-22. The fourth game became a battle that featured 13 ties and six lead changes. Tech pulled out the victory 30-28 on .228 hitting. The Red Raiders dominated in the fifth and deciding match with nine kills and two errors on 18 total attempts for .389 hitting. Tech took the victory with the 15-9 score.
Philister Sang led the strong Red Raider effort with 27 kills and eight errors on 67 attempts. Sang added 10 kills to complete her 10th double-double of the season. Amy Charlebois and Kiley Lyons each added 12 kills, while Lyons also notched 11 digs to earn a double-double. Amanda Hiller led the defensive effort with 19 digs and Charlebois with six blocks.
