Tech Finishes In Third

LUBBOCK, Texas - After shooting a tournament-low 295 third round, the 43rd-ranked Texas Tech men's golf team finished in third overall at the Notre Dame Invitational\Central Regional Preview at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind. Three Red Raiders finished in the top 10, with senior Shaun Melville leading the way.
Melville rolled through the tournament never finishing each day lower than eighth. Melville, shooting a third-round two-over-par, 72, finished tied for fourth, his highest Tech career finish. Melville achieved his highest career finish by shooting his lowest career 54-hole score of 216. Melville's tied for fourth performance is his first top ten finish, replacing his previous high mark of tied for 33rd set at the beginning of last year.
Sophomore Oscar Floren finished as Tech's second-best golfer with a seventh-place finish, one off his career best of tied for sixth. Floren shot a third-round 74 to follow his first and second round's 71 and 72. Floren ended the event at 217, seven-over-par. In a tie for ninth, junior Andrew Dresser shot a 75 third round. Dresser's 73-71-75, 219 three-round score carded him his 10 overall top 10 finish. Santiago Rivas, freshman, finished the tournament at 15-over-par, 236, posting a tie for 65th place. Rivas' 79-73-74 three-round showing concludes his first collegiate tournament. Rounding out the last of the Red and Black's golfers is freshman Nicolas Allain in 73rd. Allain (80-83-77) shot a tournament-score 240, 19-over-par, to wrap-up his first tournament for the Red Raiders.
Taking top-team honors was Kent State (first-871), who took home the tournament title without relinquishing the top-spot the whole weekend. Kent State's Ryan Yip took home individual honors behind a solid three-round outing with a 68-72-69- 209 tournament score.
Michigan State (second-873) finished just above Tech (third-888) with a team tournament-low round of 281. Rounding out the top five are Colorado (fourth-889) and Indiana (fifth-890).
The Red Raiders will return to action Oct. 1-2 at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
