LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas Tech's Adam Bresnu was named the Ben Hogan Award's September Golfer of the Month following committee balloting and a social media fan vote. The national honor follows his selection Monday as one of three finalists for the award, alongside Johnnie Clark (New Mexico) and Max Emberson (Georgia Tech).
Bresnu captured his first Division I individual title Sept. 29, winning the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club. The senior finished atop the 80-player field at 7-under 203, shooting three consecutive under-par rounds of 69-67-67 to win by one stroke over Georgia's JD Culbreth. Bresnu was one of just seven players in the field to finish under par.
The victory also earned Bresnu an exemption into the 2027 PGA TOUR Charles Schwab Challenge.
The Red Raiders' first month of competition began Sept. 13-15 at the Inverness Intercollegiate, where Bresnu posted rounds of 76-72-73 to finish tied for 36th at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. He gained momentum at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational, held Sept. 18-19, posting three consecutive rounds at par or better on the par-70 South Course at Olympia Fields Country Club. Bresnu carded rounds of 70-66-64 to finish 10-under 200, including a season-best 6-under 64 in the third round.
Bresnu finished September with a 69.3 scoring average and a 67.51 adjusted scoring average across nine rounds at three of the top courses a collegiate golf schedule has to offer. On Oct. 7, Bresnu climbed six spots to No. 3 in the PGA TOUR University Rankings.
Each May, the Ben Hogan Award presented by Baird recognizes the top collegiate golfer based on performance across collegiate, amateur and professional events played over a 12-month period. The 2027 award season runs from the 2026 NCAA Championships through the 2027 NCAA Regionals.
The Ben Hogan Award has honored the outstanding amateur collegiate golfer at Colonial Country Club since 2002. Before the award moved to Fort Worth, the original Ben Hogan Trophy was presented by Friends of Golf at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles beginning in 1990. Since 2002, the foundation has donated more than $1.3 million to charitable endeavors, providing scholarship grants to colleges as well as gifts to golf programs and organizations in need.
