Men's Golf Remains In Top Five After Second Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 43 Texas Tech men's golf team finished the second day of competition at the Notre Dame\Central Regional Preview Invitational at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., in fourth with a score of 593. Tech shot a second-round 297 to keep close to the top of the field, but Colorado moved into second behind a second-round performance of 293 to push the Red Raiders down one spot from their day-one finish.
While the Red Raiders as a team dropped in the standings, all of Tech's top-three golfers improved on their day one finish. Sophomore Oscar Floren moved up one spot into third place, while junior Andrew Dresser and senior Shaun Melville moved into a tie for fourth. Floren shot a second round two-over-par, 72, standing at 143 after two rounds. Dresser and Melville shot a pair of 71 rounds to both end the second round at 144. Freshman Santiago Rivas shot a second-round 83, carding a 162 two-round score, 74th-place tie. Nicolas Allain, junior, turned in a tie for 76th place behind an 83 second-round performance. Allain finished the day with a 163 two-round score.
Kent State (first-580) still leads the pack, with No.34 Colorado (second-591) moving into the top three. Michigan State (third-592), Texas Tech (fourth-593) and Indiana (fifth-598) round out the top five.
The tournament will continue with a 9 a.m. start at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., tomorrow. Tomorrow's round is the third and final round of the 54-hole event.
