
Six Lady Raiders Honored By Big 12 Conference

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - As the members of the Big 12 Conference gathered to for the Big 12 softball tournament in Oklahoma City on Wednesday afternoon, it was announced that four players from the Texas Tech softball team have been named to All-Conference team and three named to the All-Big 12 Academic team.
Junior Kelly Rhyne and freshman Ashley Parker were named as 1st team All-Big 12 team members, becoming the first Lady Raiders since Amanda Renfro and Sandy Butler in 2001 to be name 1st team All-conference performers. Parker, batted .313 with 51 hits in her first collegiate season after graduating from Lindale High in Lindale, Texas, last spring. Rhyne who was the team's leader in most offensive categories last season, hit .339 with two home runs and 27 RBI as the team's clean-up hitter this season. Seniors Andrea Joachims and Elyssa Sigala were named to the second team after posting strong season it their final college campaigns. A native of Vancouver, Wash., Joachims batted .323 in conference play while Sigala led the team in hitting with a .344 average, 11 home runs and 35 RBI for the entire season.
In addition to outstanding athletic performance, the Big 12 also honored many of its student-athletes for their achievements in the classroom. Three Lady Raiders received this recognition. Sophomore Erin Crawford was name to the second team All-Big 12 Academic team while sophomore Amanda Oakes and Rhyne were named to the first team.
